A Raw Juice Fasting Detox Diet
Juice fasting has become a popular way to enjoy healthy raw foods, whilst experiencing a cleansing detoxification and almost guaranteed weight loss.

What Is Juice Fasting?

A juice fast is a raw detox diet which involves consuming only raw, freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices (and water). Virtually any fruit or veg can be used but no solid food can be consumed.

Juice fasts can last from a couple of days right up to 30 days or more. Juices must be made from raw ingredients and consumed fresh.

So called fresh juices bought in most supermarkets will not contain adequate nutrition to justify a juice fast.

Reasons for juice fasting include:

Juice Fasting For Detoxification

A juice detox is one of the simplest and most successful ways to cleanse your body. Raw organic juices contain high levels of vitamins and nutrients and will help your body to expel toxins that have accumulated throughout the body. A juice fast can be combined with colon cleansing to provide a more thorough body detox.

Juice Fasting For Weight Loss

Fasting implies abstinence. By consuming only fresh organic juices and no solid foods, you will naturally lose weight. Juice fasting is not recommended for a long term weight loss solution, however it can be an incredibly effective way to lose weight fast. Initially you may lose up to 1 pound a day but this will gradually tail off as your body adjusts to the fasting regime.

Why Fast On Juices?

Juicing fruits and vegetables is the quickest and most efficient way of extracting the high level of nutrients stored within. The juicer breaks down the fibres of the plant cell wall and the many nutrients contained within are released. These include the sap, proteins, enzymes and complex carbohydrates, in the form of sugars and starches.

Also, by separating juice from the pulp, as any quality kitchen juicer will, you are left with a liquid that is nutrient dense but has a much reduced mass compared to the equivalent in raw fruits or vegetables.

Raw juices require hardly any digestive energy and are easily assimilated directly in the bloodstream. They're highly alkaline forming and help in balancing ph levels in the blood and tissues.

Different properties of juices

Fruit Juices

Of all juices, those made with fruits are easiest for the body to absorb nutrients from. However, fruit juices are high in sugar which can ferment rapidly in the stomach. For this reason they should be diluted or combined with water in a 50/50 ratio. Fruit juices also remain stable for longer compared to vegetable juices, which oxidize quickly, losing many of the nutritional benefits. Fruits to avoid on a juice fast include pomegranate and grapefruit juice.

Vegetable Juices

Vegetables should make up the bulk of your diet when on a juice fast. The most common choices for juice fasting are carrots, beets, cucumbers and celery. Avoid any veg that you you wouldn't normally eat raw ie potatoes, aubergine etc

Green Juices

Another category are the so called green juices. These vegetable juices are chosen because of their high chlorophyll content. Dark green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, broccoli, fresh sprouts , are high in minerals such as iron and calcium and have alkalizing properties. Check out raw fooder Angela Stokes for more information on green juices.

Juice Fasting Side Effects

As with any detox program, a juice fast can produce some side effects. Various conditions, depending on the individual can arise including headaches, nausea, low blood pressure, fainting and hypoglycemia. If in are experiencing any of these symptons you must consult your doctor as soon as possible or transition yourself back to solid foods. Certain groups of people should avoid juice fasting altogether including pregnant women and diabetes sufferers.

Tips For A Successful Juice Fast

  • Fruit and vegetables should ideally be juiced immediately before drinking. This is because raw juices, especially vegetable ones, oxidize rapidly, losing their nutritional value, even when kept in the fridge.
  • Use only fresh ripe fruits and vegetables and avoid any produce with bruises or mould.
  • Avoid the use of canned or tinned fruit and vegetable juices. These will have been heat treated during the pasteurizaton process and will contain only a fraction of the raw health benefits of organic fresh fruit and  vegetables.
  • It's a good ideas to peel any fruit or veg that has been sprayed to remove any pesticide residues. Carrots and other root vegetables  are usually safer in this respect and a good scrubbing with a stiff brush will suffice.
  • Juice fasting should not be done for long period of time as it may lead to nutritional deficiencies in the body. A 30 day juice fast is probably the maximum you would want to try. For a longer term alternative try juice feasting .

I have been making raw food juices for over 15 years, working closely with cancer patrons who need pure natural live food juice for there recovery, I'm the only one in the U.S.who has developed a hipper freezing's system that keeps the live enzymes intact, so all you have to do is defrost each bottle and drink, for 100% nutrients that your body needs each day. One bottle of my juice gives your body 8 serving of live vegetables.

I´m sorry to desagree with you, but according to the researchers of "Hippocrates Institute" in Florida, freezing veges and fruits (or any other type of food) will destroy most of the enzimes, natural hormones and vitamins that are expected to be found when you take them right after juicing them. Please check this info through the Institute above. Dr. Brian Clement presented this issue some time ago in a seminar I attended. Best regards.

We have also been using natural juices as a detox regimen for some of our patients. It is a really effective and soothing way to rid your body of harmful drugs and chemicals.

I have just begun to try juicing with raw organic veggies (not with fasting though) and have experienced an unwelcome flare-up of my IBS which has previously been under control with probiotics and digestive enzymes. If I use beets, it looks like I have evacuated a lot of blood. Is this common?
